Garvey and Newland Named to Bowling All-Conference Teams

Bradford, PA. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's bowling team saw two of its members earn conference recognition this week as Brookelyn Garvey and Sarah Newaland both garnered All-AMCC honors. Garvey was voted to the 1st team, while Newland made the 2nd.

Garvey finished the regular season 6th in the AMCC in overall average, 8th in traditional average, and 4th in Baker average. She was also 4th in the AMCC in fill percentage (74.5%) and 5th in makable spare percentage. She was conference Bowler of the Week once and made the all-tournament team at the Brother Lacy Tournament in Latrobe, Pa. This is her second time making First Team All-AMCC, as she earned the same honor last season, along with being named conference Newcomer of the Year.

"Brookelyn deserves all the honors she has received," said head bowling coach Gregg Hoover. "She puts in the time on and off the lanes all year long. She has two more years with us and is expecting even more accomplishments," he added.

Sophomore Sarah Newland finished the season 10th in the conference in overall pin-per-frame average at 16.48. She was also 9th in strike percentage at 29.6% and 5th in 9+ pin first balls. This is her first time earning All-AMCC honors.

"Sarah really stepped up for us this year. It's always a great feeling when opposing coaches tell you that they can't believe how good she is getting," said Hoover. "Sarah has really put in the time to improve herself both at the lanes and in the gym, it has shown in her performances, and it's nice to see her rewarded for her hard work with this."

The Panthers finished the regular season in 4th place in the AMCC with a 13-7 record, earning their second straight post-season appearance.
