Panthers Get Off to Slow Start, Fall at Penn State-Behrend

Bradford, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's basketball team traveled to Erie on Wednesday to take on Penn State-Behrend, falling to the Lions 105-45.

The Panthers stayed with the Lions for the first 90 seconds of the game as Ashley Hall and McKenna Kelly made early baskets to answer 4 early points from the Lions. Unfortunately, they were not able to keep that offensive efficiency going, as they struggled to find the basket for the remainder of the first quarter. The Panthers were limited to a Kelly free throw, as the Lions scored 31 points, including a run of 25 straight.

Pitt-Bradford scored first in the second period, but her layup was answered with 9 straight from the hosts, extending their lead to 44-7. Alexa Ackerman answered with a three and Trinity Lockwood-Morris made a jumper on the next possession for the Panthers. Abigail Goos and Katie Woolson each made layups in the last five minutes of the quarter before Ashley Hall sent the game to halftime with a three in the final seconds.

The Panthers had their best quarter of the game in the third, as they were able to score 21 points, more than doubling their first-half output. Kelly started the quarter with back-to-back layups. Alexa Ackerman took over the quarter from there as she scored 7 points on 3-4 from the field and 1-2 from three. Five other Panthers made layups in the quarter.

Pitt-Bradford once again got the scoring started in the 4th on an Abigail Goss layup, but it was answered by a nine-point run by the hosts. Ashley Hall hit her second longball of the day with 5:38 to go, however, it was the final basket for the Panthers, as they were outscored 9-0 for the remainder of play.

Alexa Ackerman led the Panthers with 10 points. She also accumulated 3 rebounds, 2 assists, and 3 steals. Ashley Hall scored 8 points for the Panthers, while McKenna Kelly finished with 7 points and 5 rebounds. Summer Anderson grabbed 5 rebounds in 22 minutes of action.

The Panthers drop to 2-11 overall and 0-3 in AMCC play. They will return to action on Saturday, as they will go on the road to take on Penn State-Altoona. The action is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m.
