Panthers Stifled by Hawks in Finale

Bradford, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's basketball team saw its season come to a close on Wednesday, as they fell to Hilbert 51-33.

  • Both teams struggled to score early, but it was the Panthers that broke the ice with 6:46 to go as Alexa Ackerman made a three from the wing. A minute later, Avery Benzel was able to immediately answer a Hilbert jumper with a layup to maintain the advantage. Unfortunately, the lead did not last much longer, as the Panthers were held to an Emily Bethel jump shot over the final 5:30 of the quarter, allowing the visitors to take a 14-7 lead to the second quarter.
  • Summer Anderson hit a jump shot from the elbow early in the second, but it was once again followed by a long scoring drought, that resulted in a 16 point Hilbert lead. The drought lasted 7 and a half minutes and was brought to an end when Ashley Hall hit a pair of free throws with 29 seconds remaining in the half.
  • As the second half began, both teams struggled to find their rhythm on the offensive end as they combined for 7 points over the first four minutes of the half. After Hilbert made two inside baskets, Avery Benzel made a three from the left wing to put the Panthers on the board in the half. The Panthers were unable to gain any momentum off the three, as they were held to an Anderson layup and a Benzel free throw over the last  6 minutes of the third.
  • The Panthers were able to find their range in the final period of play as they scored 15 points in the quarter. Cailey Barnett got things started, and Daizjah Brown completed a three-point play out of a timeout. Ashley Hall made two layups and a pair of free throws in the quarter, while Benzel added a jump shot in the final seconds.

Ashley Hall led the Panthers with 8 points, with 6 of them coming in the final quarter of play. Cailey Barnett and Avery Benzel added six points each, while Summer Anderson and Daizjah Brown both added 4 points off the bench.

The Panthers' season ends with a 3-21 overall record and a 1-15 mark in AMCC play.
