BRADFORD, Pa. – The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's basketball team led wire-to-wire in a convincing 82-62 win against Alfred State Wednesday evening at the KOA Arena in a non-conference game.
Jennifer Isenberg earned her eighth double-double of the season with a career-high 25 points and 14 rebounds. Both totals were also game highs.
Three more Panthers scored in double-figures as Shaelyn Snipes scored 15 points, Bri Wells scored 12 points and Ali Rinfrette scored 10 points.
From start to finish, the Panther defense was causing trouble for the Alfred State offense. In total, the Panthers forced 25 turnovers and grabbed 19 steals.
Up 8-0 in the first quarter, the Panthers collected four steals before the Pioneers scored their first points at the 7:53 mark.
With 57 seconds left in the first quarter, Alfred State's Catherine Bialecki earned the 1,000th point of her career with a layup.
In total, Pitt-Bradford forced eight turnovers in the first quarter and grabbed seven steals led by three from Rinfrette. Eight first-quarter points from Isenberg on 4-7 shooting led Pitt-Bradford to a 24-15 lead.
Alfred State began the second quarter with a pair of layups before a Wells' layup brought the Panther lead to 26-19.
Pitt-Bradford got scoring from all areas in the second quarter as Isenberg led the way with six points and Allison Guengerich scored five off the bench, including a three-pointer. Snipes and Aiyana Waddell each chipped in five.
The Pioneers earned their strongest quarter of the game in with 23 points in the second but the Panther offense put up 26 to extend their advantage to 50-38 into halftime.
Isenberg did most of the scoring with seven points on a perfect 3-3 performance from the field, including a three-ball, in the third quarter.
Pitt-Bradford's defense held Alfred State to just four made field goals in the third quarter and the two teams entered the final frame with the Panthers ahead, 68-49.
Alfred State climbed back early in the fourth, though, scoring the first 11 points of the half to bring the score to 68-60 in favor of the Panthers.
Back-to-back makes from Isenberg followed by back-to-back layups from Wells put Pitt-Bradford ahead, 76-60, with 2:58 left to play.
A pair at the line from Etreece Adams at the 1:32 mark put the Panthers ahead, 82-60, and the 22-point advantage would be Pitt-Bradford's largest of the game.
Alfred State converted on a layup in the closing seconds of the game and Pitt-Bradford hung on for the 20-point victory, 82-62.
Wednesday's win is the fourth win of the season decided by 20 points or more so far for the Panthers.
Pitt-Bradford dominated the glass, grabbing 53 rebounds to Alfred State's 40. The Panthers also grabbed 22 offensive boards led by Isenberg's six.
Pitt-Bradford's perimeter defense was perfect, holding Alfred State to a 0-6 mark on three-point attempts.
Rinfrette led the Panthers with seven steals and eight assists. Wells also dished out eight assists herself.
Up next, the Panthers will host Franciscan Saturday. The Pitt-Bradford department of athletics and Alpha Phi Omega chapter will host the third-annual "Teal There's A Cure" campaign to raise awareness for ovarian cancer.
