DeFranco, Marx Earn All-Conference Honors

Bradford, Pa. – The Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference released its 2022 All-Conference selections on Thursday and the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford softball program had two players recognized.

Junior Marguerite DeFranco was named to the 2nd team as a designated player, while Senior KT Marx was voted to the 3rd team as a catcher. This is the first time either player has been named to an All-Conference team.

DeFranco split time this season, as she was in the lineup as both a designated player and catcher. For the season, DeFranco hit .323 with 6 doubles, 13 RBIs, and 9 runs scored. She hit 5 of those doubles in conference play while hitting .342 against AMCC opponents. In her time behind the dish, she threw out one base runner stealing.

“Marg was a big part of our offense during conference play,” said head softball coach Tina Phillips. “We relied on her bat for production and as she continued to step up throughout the season, and earned a full-time role in the lineup.”

KT Marx compiled a .329 batting average with 14 RBIs for the season. 8 extra-base hits, including her first career home run, and 10 runs scored. She stepped up in conference play, hitting .441, which was the 9th best batting average against AMCC opponents in the conference. She was also an important cog in the Panther defensive effort. She threw out a league-leading 10 runners stealing while going the entire Panther conference schedule without an error.

“I’m so happy for KT to get recognized as a senior,” said Phillips. “She has been a strong presence behind the plate and handles our pitching staff so well. She saved her best season for last and it’s nice to see her hard work rewarded.”

The Panthers completed their season with a 12-24 overall record and a 7-8 record in AMCC play. They were the 5th seed in the AMCC Championship Tournament. In the tournament they went 1-2, leading to a 4th place finish.
