Panthers to take on Mount Aloysius in AMCC Game of the Week

Bradford, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford softball team heads south this weekend to take on defending AMCC champions, Mount Aloysius. The AMCC has selected this doubleheader as its Game of the Week.

The Panthers began their season on Tuesday with a sweep of Alfred State. They won the first game 5-1 and ended the nightcap early, winning 12-0 in 6 innings. Senior pitchers Jordan Uhing and Kerrigan Hoffmann were dominant for the Panthers. Uhing allowed one run in a complete-game victory that saw her strike out eight batters. Hoffmann followed this up with a six-inning shutout. The Panthers' offense used a balanced attack in the wins, seeing 13 different players register hits. Katie Marx went 3-for-3 in game one and Chloe Cordova drove in three runs over the two contests.

The Mounties also started their season 2-0, sweeping Pitt-Greensburg last Saturday. Senior Lydia DeFazio went 4-8 in the doubleheader with 2 doubles and 5 RBIs. Freshmen Grace Gardini, Lexi Wilt, and Kayla Diehl all collected 3 hits in the twin bill. Freshman Madison Hillard threw a complete game in the opener, allowing 1 unearned run on 6 hits.

In the annual preseason coaches poll, the Mounties were projected to finish in first, as the Panthers were voted 3rd. The game will also feature a marquee individual matchup as the conference's preseason player and pitcher of the year will match-up. Uhing was named preseason pitcher of the year, while DeFazio was named preseason player of the year.

The games are scheduled to begin at 1 and 3 on Saturday. Links to the live video feed of the contests will be available on the Pitt-Bradford athletics website.
