Panther Softball to Wrap Up Conference Play against La Roche

Bradford, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford softball team will bring their AMCC schedule to a close on Saturday when they host La Roche University.

The Panthers are 14-4 on the season, with a 12-2 record in conference play. They are currently tied with Penn State-Behrend at the top of the AMCC standings. They are currently on a 6 game winning streak. In their last action, the Panthers went on the road to sweep Pitt-Greensburg. They took game one 7-6 in 8 innings and completed the sweep with a 4-2 victory in the nightcap.

Hannah Lathrop has led the Panthers' offensive attack this season. She leads the team in average (.436), home runs (4), and RBIs (22). She is tied at the top of the leaderboard in the AMCC in home runs, 6th in batting average, and 5th in runs batted in.  Daytona Wentzel is hitting .400 on the season and leads the team in doubles with 7. Finally, Gabby Carpenter has set the table well for the Panthers. She is hitting .371 with 24 runs scored and 15 stolen bases. She is 2nd in the conference in steals and 4th in runs.

In the circle, Jordan Uhing is the reigning AMCC Pitcher of the Week. Last week she was 3-0 with a save, a .67 earned run average, 21 strikeouts. For the whole season, she is 7-1 with a 1.64 earned run average, 52 strikeouts, and only 5 walks. She leads the conference in wins, earned run average, and strikeouts per 7 innings. Kerrigan Hoffmann has also had a strong season in her senior campaign. She is 6-1 with a .264 earned run average.

La Roche enters the contest 7-9 with a 7-7 record in AMCC play. They are currently in 5th place in the conference standings. On Wednesday, they earned a split with Mount Aloysius, winning the first game 3-2 in extra innings, before dropping the second 5-2. 

Freshman Ashtin Hoover leads the Redhawks with a .473 batting average. She also leads the team in runs scored. Devan Smith has posted a .413 batting average with 17 runs scored, and 23 driven in. She has the only home run of the season for La Roche.

Senior Alexa Young has led the La Roche pitching staff this season. She is 5-4 on the year with 2 saves. She has logged 71 and 1/3 innings pitched, with a 2.94 earned run average. She has struck out 48 batters. 

Spectators are allowed to attend the game on Saturday. Regulations for those spectators are listed below.

  • New seating areas have been roped off to separate spectators from players, coaches, and game management staff. This area includes both dugouts, the bleachers, press box, and batting cages. Spectators will be able to view the game while remaining physically distanced along the perimeter of the outfield fencing stretching between the batting cages on each baseline.
  • All spectators must wear masks while on the Kessel Athletic Complex.
  • The restrooms at the softball field will not be available for spectator use. Spectators requiring bathroom facilities have access to the bathrooms behind the Facilities Management building next to the Tennis Courts and Soccer Fields. These restrooms are sanitized and disinfected in accordance with Pitt-Bradford campus policies.
  • There will be no concessions at the event.
  • Spectators, athletes, and coaches are prohibited from chewing and spitting sunflower seeds and smokeless tobacco products within the complex.

First pitch for the doubleheader has been pushed back from its originally scheduled time. It is now scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. with the second game beginning shortly after.
