Panthers split with AMCC opponent Medaille

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Pitt-Bradford softball team traveled to Medaille and split with the Mavericks in an AMCC doubleheader, winning the first game 15-13 and falling in game two, 8-3.

The Panthers started things out with an RBI single in the first inning by senior Bri Stenta (Ridgway/Ridgway) that put them on top 1-0.

Medaille responded in a big way as they went on to put up five runs in the bottom of the first off of five hits to take a 5-1 lead.

The Panthers came back to put up ten runs in the next two innings with RBIs from sophomore Jill Fleming (Hamburg, N.Y./Frontier), junior Amber Fox (Warren/Youngsville), Stenta and junior Meagan Hillard (Bradford/Bradford).

The Mavericks responded with one run in the next inning after a throwing error by the Panthers scored one for Medaille, trimming the lead to 11-6.

The Panthers put two more up in the fourth after RBIs from senior Courtney Schuler (Smethport/Smethport) and Fleming to push the lead to 13-6.

Medaille wouldn't go away as they got the two runs back after three hits in the inning produced two runs and cut the Panthers' lead to 13-8.

Pitt-Bradford put up two runs again in the fifth as its offense scored in five-straight innings with an RBI single by senior Ang Comilla (Bradford/Bradford) and an RBI double from Bell to give them a 15-8 lead.

Medaille refused to go quietly as they came roaring back with five runs in the bottom of the sixth but the Panthers were able to hold off the comeback attempt as they took game one, 15-13.

In the second game of the doubleheader, the first score of the game came in the top of the third with Pitt-Bradford jumping out to a 2-0 lead after junior Leann Bell (West Branch/Lance) laced a double that scored Stenta and Comilla.

The Mavericks answered with two runs of their own in the bottom of the third after a sacrifice fly and an RBI double to even the score at 2-2.

The Panthers reclaimed the lead in the top of the fifth after Stenta came home on an RBI single by Bell to give Pitt-Bradford a 3-2 lead.

Medaille tied the game back up in the bottom of the fifth but took control of the game in the bottom of the sixth after they put up five runs in the inning highlighted by a grand slam home run.

The Panthers will take the field next as they host Hilbert College on April 16 at 3 p.m.
