Maduakor Wins Two as Panthers Fall to Bobcats

Greensburg, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's tennis team traveled to Pitt-Greensburg on Sunday for a pair of AMCC matches. The Panthers were able to get two singles victories from Alex Maduakor, but fell 8-1 to the Bobcats in both matches.

The Panthers fell behind early as they lost all three doubles matches handily. Jason Gao and Hugh Kennedy fell in the #1 position 8-2, while the Panthers lost the other matches 8-1.

The Panthers were much more competitive in their singles matches, highlighted by Maduakor's victory. Alex picked up his first career win with a 6-4, 7-5 straight sets victory at the number 5 position. Hugh Kennedy nearly pulled off a win in the second pairing. Kennedy won his first set 5-7, but fell 6-1 in set two. In the tiebreaker, Kennedy was able to keep pace for the first few points, but ultimately lost 10-6. Gao also had a strong match in the top pairing, falling 6-2, 6-4.

In the second match of the day, the Panthers battled in singles play, as three of the 6 matches went into a tiebreaking set. Maduakor moved up to number 4 in the match, and was able to outlast his opponent to pick up his second win of the day. He lost the first set 2-6, but battled back and won the second 6-0. The tiebreaker was back and forth, with Maduakor finally earning the two-point advantage needed to secure the victory at 15-13.

Kennedy played in his second 3-set match of the day in the third pairing. He lost the first set 6-3, but won the second 2-6. He ran out of steam in the third set, falling 10-3. Jason Gao also came back from a first-set loss to force a tiebreaker. He lost set one 6-4, before reversing the score in set two with a 4-6 win. He fell in the tiebreaker 10-5. 

The Panthers fall to 0-5 on the season, with an 0-4 record in AMCC play. They are scheduled to be back in action on Saturday, October 1st, when they host Penn State-Behrend at 1:00 p.m.
