Panthers Drop Opener to Alfred

Bradford, Pa. --The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's tennis team began their 2022-23 season on Thursday afternoon, falling to the Alfred University Saxons 9-0.

The Panthers were unable to pick up any match victories but saw some improvement on their 2021-22 campaign as they were able to pick up multiple game victories in each match.

Pitt-Bradford dropped the top two doubles matches 8-1, but nearly came away with a victory in the 3rd pairing. Jermal Coleman and Luke Gratz pushed their opponents to the brink, losing a tight match 8-6.

In singles play, Coleman had the best performance for the Panthers as he picked up his first career set victory at 5. After losing the first set 6-1, he was able to battle back and take the second 3-6 to force a tiebreaker. In the tiebreak, he battled his opponent but fell 12-10. Patrick Tolerico was able to pick up 3 game victories in his second set in the 3rd pairing, while Jason Gao won a game a piece at 1 and Hugh Kennedy won one game in group 4.

The Panthers drop to 0-1 after the loss to the Saxons. They have had their next scheduled contest postponed, and will be back in action on Saturday, September 17th when they host Mount Aloysius.
