Volz, Dennis Win As Panthers Men's Tennis Hosts Thiel Thursday

BRADFORD, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's tennis team returned to the Kessel Athletics Complex outdoor courts and hosted Thiel for a non-conference match Thursday.

Pitt-Bradford (1-8) fell to Thiel, 7-2.

"Jake and Matt won their matches by taking advantage of their volleying skills and solid groundstrokes," Head Coach Susan Schenfield said. "They have power on strokes but also have all court abilities."

The two Panther wins came from Matt Dennis and Jacob Volz in singles action.

Volz won in the top spot via scores of 6-2, 6-3.

Dennis captured his win in the No. 3 spot, 6-4, 10-2.

The No. 6 match with Noah Bartholomew was a close one, going to three sets. He narrowly dropped the first, 7-6, then won the second, 6-2. But his counterpart took the win 10-5 in set three.

In doubles action, Pitt-Bradford had competitive matches in the top two spots (No. 1: Dennis/Volz; No. 2 Drew Patla/Jeffrey Kocjancic) but lost 8-3 in both.

Brandon Charnisky and Jonathan Azcona also competed for the Panthers Thursday.

Pitt-Bradford will wrap up its 2018-19 season hosting Mount Aloysius Friday, April 12.
