Alfred Tops Panthers In Non-Conference Showdown Friday

OLEAN, N.Y. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's tennis team dropped a non-conference match against Alfred Friday evening, 8-1, at the St. Bonaventure Fitness Center.

"As a team, we had good hands and slower feet," Head Coach Susan Schenfield said. "We have so many weapons, but there are those times we lack the right decision making. In singles, Jeff was the aggressive player with the effective serve. He is always looking for his favorite pattern —big serve and backhand."

Jeffrey Kocjancic picked up the lone Pitt-Bradford win, coming in No. 2 singles. He captured the first set with a commanding 6-1 win, then completed the victory with a hard-fought 7-6 (8-6) decision in the second.

The No. 4 singles competition featuring Noah Bartholomew saw a competitive defeat, 6-4, 6-1.

Doubles action saw a pair of competitive defeats, with the No. 1 team of Matt Dennis and Kocjancic putting up an 8-4 fight and the No. 2 team of Drew Patla and Brandon Charnisky battling in an 8-5 match.

Up next, Pitt-Bradford will host Bethany Sunday at 12 p.m.
