Pitt-Greensburg Defeats Both Panthers Tennis Teams In Fall Finale

BRADFORD, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's and women's tennis teams wrapped up their fall action Friday hosting Pitt-Greensburg at the Kessel Athletic Complex.

Pitt-Greensburg defeated both Panther teams, narrowly edging the Panther women, 5-4, and beating the Pitt-Bradford men's team, 8-1.

The Pitt-Bradford women's team closed out its 2018 season, finishing with a 1-9 overall record highlighted by a shutout victory over Penn State-Behrend last week.

The Panthers' men's team finishes the fall 1-4, its win coming Saturday at Penn State-Altoona. Pitt-Bradford will resume the rest of its season Feb. 23 at Medaille.

Prior to Friday's match, the Panthers honored Maya Bingaman for Senior Day, as she competed in her final home match as a member of the Pitt-Bradford women's tennis program.

The Panthers women's team got its first win of the afternoon in No. 3 doubles, as Aaliyah Smith and Abbie Buerkle picked up their sixth victory of the season as a duo, 8-2.

Pitt-Bradford then won three singles matches.

In No. 3 singles, Buerkle won her match, 7-5, 6-3, and Jessica Jordan won her No. 4 singles match convincingly, 6-1, 6-1.

Katelyn Wells rounded out the Panthers scoring, winning at No. 5 in dominant fashion, 6-1, 6-1.

In No. 1 singles, Bingaman dropped the first set but forced a third set with a 6-3 win in the second. But, Pitt-Greensburg narrowly took the victory with a win in the decisive third.

In the men's match, the Panthers picked up their lone victory in No. 4 singles as Jeffrey Kocjancic won, 7-5, 6-1.

The Panthers almost found points in the top two doubles spots.

The No. 1 matchup featuring Jacob Volz and Matt Dennis was a tight one, 8-5, while the No. 2 matchup with Kocjancic and David Ta fought hard but narrowly lost, 9-7.
