Panthers Grab Two Singles, Doubles Wins in 5-4 loss To Alfred

OLEAN, N.Y. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's tennis team battled but narrowly fell to Alfred in its first action of 2018-19, 5-4.

"Drew was down by four games in his first set, but he continued to mix spins and placements to the point where his opponent was never sure what shot was coming," Head Coach Susan Schenfield said. "We need to remember we don't need to do everything perfectly to win and concentrate on what we do well. That is what we're going to rely on."

The evening began at the St. Bonaventure outdoor courts but eventually moved inside the St. Bonaventure Tennis Center due to darkness.

In doubles, the top two teams for the Panthers picked up victories.

The top team of Jacob Volz and Matthew Dennis earned a 7-5 win, and the No. 2 duo of Drew Patla and Jeffrey Kocjancic grabbed the victory with the same score.

Volz and Patla went onto pick up wins in singles action, Patla's in comeback fashion.
