Pitt-Greensburg Tops Panthers In Regular Season Finale

Pitt-Greensburg Tops Panthers In Regular Season Finale

GREENSBURG, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's tennis team competed closely with Pitt-Greensburg but ultimately fell, 5-4, in the 2017-18 regular season finale.

"This match, last one of the season, could have gone either way," Head Coach Susan Schenfield said. "Tyler, Jake and Matt mentally mastered the key moments in their matches. As a team, we were confident but doubted ourselves when it came to attacking the ground strokes. During the coming months, we will continue to focus on our gameplan that will take us one step closer to a championship."

Pitt-Bradford earned a win in doubles action and three singles victories.

In doubles, the No. 1 team of Tyler Dugan and Jacob Volz picked up the win in dominant fashion, 8-1, in the top spot.

The No. 3 doubles team of Matt Dennis and Jeffrey Kocjancic worked a tight match but lost, 8-5.

In singles action, Dugan and Volz continued their winning ways, picking up victories in the top-two spots.

Dugan once again worked a convincing result, earning the No. 1 win 6-0, 6-1. Volz grabbed the No. 2 nearly as dominant, 6-1, 6-1.

In No. 5 singles, Dennis earned the win, 6-2, 6-1, for the fourth Panther point.

Pitt-Bradford finishes the 2017-18 campaign with a 1-4 record in AMCC matches, highlighted by a 6-3 victory over Mount Aloysius on March 24.

Dugan ends the regular season as the team's top performer, having won three of his five AMCC singles matches while posting the same success rate in AMCC doubles action.

Volz and Dennis won a pair of AMCC singles matches each this season. Volz claimed three doubles wins in conference paired with Dugan.
