Panthers Grab First Win Of The Season Over Alfred

OLEAN, N.Y. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's tennis team captured its first win of the season Friday, 5-4, over Alfred at the St. Bonaventure Fitness Center.

"It was a great win," Head Coach Susan Schenfield said. "Each match we were in a tough situation and had to convince ourselves to stay in the moment. We handled our nerves and stuck with our game plan. Our No. 1 doubles stayed composed and made very few mistakes against a strong team."

In doubles play, the No. 1 team of Tyler Dugan and Jacob Volz earned a tough win, 8-6.

The Panthers then claimed a second point in No. 3 doubles, 8-5, as Matt Dennis and Drew Patla came out on top.

No. 1 singles saw a special match as Jacob Volz played against his brother, Kevin. The two battled to a tough finish, but Kevin came out on top narrowly, 9-8.

Tyler Dugan claimed a win in No. 2 singles, 8-5, to give the Panthers another point.

Matt Dennis battled and came out victorious in No. 5 singles, 8-6.

Pitt-Bradford also claimed the victory in No. 6 singles, 8-4, as Jeffrey Kocjancic earned the win.

The Panthers will be in action next on March 17 as Pitt-Bradford will host Penn State-Altoona for the team's first conference match.
