Pitt-Bradford Grabs Two Singles Wins In Season Opener

Pitt-Bradford Grabs Two Singles Wins In Season Opener

ERIE, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's tennis team opened up its 2018 spring season against Waynesburg Saturday, falling 7-2.

"The team was excited tonight to be able to be back on the court and be able to play again," Head Coach Susan Schenfield said. "At No. 1 singles, Tyler's delicate balancing act of consistency knowing when to play it safe and when to deliver the knockout blow was too much for his opponent. Matt Dennis' match went to a back and forth tie-breaker. His close out rallies, either with a put away ground stroke or at net when he had the advantage gave him a win. As we continue to play matches, we will find our groove and build our confidence."

Tyler Dugan grabbed a win in No. 1 singles, 8-4.

The second Panther win came at No. 5 singles from Matt Dennis, 7-5.

The No. 1 doubles team of Tyler Dugan and Jacob Volz, and the No. 3 doubles team of Drew Patla and Jeffrey Kocjancic worked close matches but fell 8-5.

Pitt-Bradford will play next on Friday against Alfred.
