UPB Tennis falls to D’Youville on their last match of the season

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Pitt-Bradford men's tennis team finished out the regular season as they traveled to D'Youville and fell to the Spartans 5-4.

D'Youville started out taking two of the three doubles matches to start the day.

The Panthers, however, got on the board with the last doubles match of the day as senior Mark Torrey (Bradford/Bradford) and freshman Tyler Updyke (Kersey/St. Marys) came away with an 8-0 win.

Pitt-Bradford took three of the six singles matches. The first coming from senior Ian Vaughan (New Kensington, Valley) who came away with a 6-0, 6-1 win.

The next victory for the Panthers came in the next match as sophomore Jordan Dugan (Galeton/Galeton) got ahead and stayed ahead, coming away with a 6-1, 6-2 win.

The Panthers made it three in a row as senior Dylan Nuzzo (Bradford/Bradford) got the last win of the day for Pitt-Bradford. The first game was a battle that ended with Nuzzo coming out on top 7-5 and he closed out the win with a 6-0 victory.

The Panthers lost their two last matches of the day, ultimately falling 5-4.

Pitt-Bradford head coach Susan Schenfield said, "This year's men's season has been a punishing year. The score board shows our losses but what it doesn't show is what my team has found. They found inspiration to succeed when they were behind in games. They found loyalty with family, friends pulling for them on the court. Saying farewell was sad, knowing it will be difficult to fill the shoes of these talented players. But it was combined with the excitement for their future endeavors."

Schenfield went on to say, "Three seniors played their last match today with as much pizzazz as when they first walked on the court at the beginning of the season. To struggle in a match and to feel that win or lose, it has been a successful year."
