Panthers fall on last home match of the year

BRADFORD, Pa. – The Pitt-Bradford men's tennis team hosted Penn State Behrend for the Panthers final home contest of the year and came up short against the Lions, 7-2.

The Lions started out doubles competition with a win over the Panthers as the team of sophomore Kosta Teverovskiy (Plains, N.Y./Harrions) and sophomore Jordan Dugan (Galeton/Galeton) fell to the Lions 8-6.

The Panthers battled back as the next doubles team of senior Dylan Nuzzo (Bradford/Bradford) and senior Ian Vaughan (New Kensington/Valley) started off slow, falling behind 5-1 but came roaring back after some good play between the two Panthers to take the win 8-6.

The next doubles team of senior Mark Torrey (Bradford/Bradford) and freshman Tyler Updyke (Kersey/St. Marys) followed up with a win of their own as they beat the Lions team in a tie-breaker 7-3.

With the Panthers winning two out of the three doubles matches they started singles competition.

Unfortunately, the Lions were able to rally back and find their groove on the court as they went on to capture all six singles matched against the Panthers.

Teverovskiy and Dugan were able to push their matches into a third set but ultimately came up just shy as the Panthers fell to the Lions.

Pitt-Bradford head coach Susan Schenfield said, "We need to lift our game past the conservative style that leaves us stranded. The combination of our no frills foundation of big serves and high percentage grinding will make us more successful."

The Panthers will finish their season as they travel to D'Youville Sunday at 12 p.m.
