Panthers suffer tough loss to Mount Aloysius, 5-4

CRESSON, Pa. – The Pitt-Bradford men's tennis team took on Mount Aloysius and fell to the Mounties, 5-4.

Pitt-Bradford (2-4) started off the day taking two out of the three doubles matches with excellent play from the team of sophomore Kosta Terverovskiy (Plains, N.Y./Harrion) and senior Jordan Dugan (Galeton/Galeton) and the team of senior Dylan Nuzzo (Bradford/Bradford) and senior Ian Vaughan (New Kensington/Valley).

Teverovskiy and Dugan defeated the Mounties by the score of 8-3 in the first game with Nuzzo and Vaughan coming away with a narrow 9-7 victory in the second game.

The Mounties were able to claim victory in the last doubles match of the day as the Panthers' team of senior Mark Torrey (Bradford/Bradford) and freshman Tyler Updyke (Kersey/St. Marys) lost a hard fought match to Mount Aloysius, 8-5.

The singles competition went down to the wire as the two schools had four matches reach a tie-breaker game.

The first of which involved Teverovskiy losing in the tie-breaker game as the scores went 3-6, 6-0, 6-0.

Vaughan found his stroke for the singles matches as he displayed a dominating performance over his opponent taking the win, 6-1, 6-3.

The Panthers would drop the next three singles matches two of which were tie-breaker loses.

The Panthers would not give in as they closed on a high note with Updyke rallying back to come away with the tie-breaker win, 6-1, 4-6, 11-9.

Pitt-Bradford head coach Susan Schenfield said, "This weekend was tough for us on the courts.I thought we represented ourselves and Pitt-Bradford well. Overall, while the outcomes of the road trip might not have been wins at times like these we need to remember our skills are still there coupled with our experience and our unflinching competitive will."

The Panthers will resume play on March 28 against Pitt-Greensburg at 1 p.m. in Bradford.
