Panthers Wrap Up Allegheny Empire Championships, Finish 7th

Webster, N.Y. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's swimming team brought their time at the Allegheny Empire Swimming and Diving Championships to a close on Saturday, finishing in 7th place with a total of 326 points. 

The final night of action began with the long-distance 1650-yard freestyle. Young demolished his own program record, as he posted a time of 16:04.13 in the finals. Unfortunately, Young was not able to retain his title from last year, as he finished in second place .53 seconds behind the winner. He was the top finisher from the AMCC in the event, giving him his second conference title in as many years. Owen Fitzsimmons qualified for the finals in the event and finished 18th with a time of 19:06.75.

Pitt-Bradford had three swimmers qualify for the finals in the next event, the 200-yard backstroke. Sam Wright was the top qualifier and finisher in the event for the Panthers. Wright finished 6th in both stages, finishing with a finals time of 2:00.26. Duncan Young was also able to qualify for the top heat. He finished in 10th place with a time of 2:04.42. Nathan Ryan took 17th place in 2:14.27. 

Logan Giles was the final Panther to qualify for finals, as he finished 17th in the preliminary round of the 200-yard breaststroke. In the final, Giles took 19th with a time of 2:20.98 seconds. He was in a group of three swimmers who all completed the race within 0.31 seconds. Eric Reynolds did not qualify for the finals but was the only Panther to finish in an alternate spot. He was 21st in the breaststroke with a time of 2:23.34.

The final event of the meet was the 400-yard freestyle relay. The Panthers fielded two relays in the event. The first relay team of Brody BArto, Sam Wright, Duncan Young, and Conan Young finished 7th in 3:23.03. Pitt-Bradford's second team of Giles, Ryan, Fitzsimmons, and Giulio Minerbi finished 17th with a time of 3:32.51.

The Panthers finished the championships with their highest point total in the 4 years they have competed at the event. Conan Young earned 3 all-conference honors, including one first-team finish in the mile.
