Conan Young takes 4th in 500, Panthers Remain in 7th on Day 2 of Allegheny Empire Championships

Webster, N.Y. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's swimming team remained in 7th place after the second day of competition at the Allegheny Swim Championships on Thursday. The Panthers brought their point total up to 138 points after four more events.

In the prelims, two Panthers were able to qualify for the event finals, while one more just missed out as an alternate. 

The first event of the day was the 500-yard Freestyle. Conan Young was able to qualify for finals during the morning session before taking 4th place in the finals swim with a time of 4:40.83. He finished 3 seconds behind the winner and missed out on third place by .17 seconds. The Panthers had 3 other swimmers compete in the preliminary race. Owen Fitzsimmons and Brody Barto had a razor-close finish in 23rd and 24th, finishing in 5:24.91 and 5:24.97 respectively. Camden Tetenov had the 28th best time at 6:12.69.

In the 200-yard individual medley, Duncan Young was able to qualify for finals with the 15th-best preliminary time. In the final, Duncan finished with a time of 2:04.13, putting him in 14th place. In the prelims, Logan Giles just missed out on finals qualification, finishing in the alternate spot in 22nd place with a time of 2:08.49. he was .22 seconds behind the last qualifier. Eric Reynolds and Nathan Ryan also swam in the event. Reynolds finished in 2:10.63, while Ryan's time was 2:13.30.

The Panthers were unable to meet a qualification time in the tight 50-yard freestyle sprint. Sam Wright had the best time for Pitt-Bradford at 23.61 seconds. He finished in 34th and was just over a second behind the last qualifying time. Giulio Minerbi finished in 23.99 seconds in 37th, while Matt Gullotti was a spot behind him in 38th with a time of 27.12 seconds.

The night came to a close with the 200-yard freestyle relay, where the Panther relay team of Barto, Tetenov, Giles, and Minerbi finished in 7th with a time of 1:34.20. Barto led off the race with a 23.52 seconds split. Tetenov was second in the water and posted a split of 24.82 seconds. Giles swam 3rd and posted a time of 22.98 seconds, and Minerbi swam the anchor leg for the Panthers, posting their best split at 22.88 seconds. 

Pitt-Bradford will be back in action tomorrow morning as they will compete in six more events. The events included on day 3 are the 400-yard individual medley, 100-yard butterfly, 200-yard freestyle, 100-yard breaststroke, 100-yard backstroke, and 400-yard medley relay. Prelims begin at 10:00 a.m. with the finals commencing at 5:00 p.m.
