Panthers Split Trimeet at Alfred State

Alfred, N.Y. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's swimming team was in Alfred, N.Y. on Saturday, as they battled Alfred State and Wells in a tri-meet. The Panthers split the event, falling to the hosts, Alfred State 159-70, but defeating Wells 119-36.

The Panthers were able to win 4 events in the meet, led by Conan Young, who won a pair. Young began his day with a victory in the 200-yard freestyle. He won the event by four seconds, finishing with a time of 1:50.41. He followed that up with a win in the 100-yard backstroke. He posted a time of 58.04 seconds, more than three seconds ahead of the next finisher.

The second-place finisher in the backstroke was Conan's brother, Duncan, who along with the runner-up finish also picked up a win in the 100-yard butterfly. Young was the only swimmer to finish the race in under a minute, as he posted a time of 59.37 seconds. he won the race by just over two seconds. 

The final Panther to win an event was Sam Wright. Wright won the 50-yard backstroke, finishing with a time of 28.22 seconds, winning by .62. He also finished 3rd in the 50-yard freestyle, swimming the sprint in 24.41 seconds.

The Panthers head into semester break with a 3-3 dual meet record. They will be back in action on Saturday, January 13th with a dual meet at Roberts Wesleyan.
