Panthers Remain in 5th after 2nd Day at Blue Devil Invitational

Fredonia, N.Y. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's swimming team was back in action at the Blue Devil Invitational on Saturday, remaining in 5th place after 26 events with 392 points.

On the second day of competition, the Panthers had 7 swimmers qualify for finals, while also putting 3 relay teams into two different events.

Pitt-Bradford's best finish of the day came in the 400-yard individual medley. Conany Young took 2nd place in the event, finishing in 4:22.85. He was 12 seconds behind the winner. Duncan Young also had a strong race, taking 6th place in the event. He swam the race in 4:37.16. Nathan Ryan also qualified and finished the event, taking 11th with a time of 5:13.15.

4 other Panthers qualified one time in three separate events. Giulio Minerbi was the next to compete for Pitt-Bradford, finishing the 200-yard freestyle in 17th place. He was able to win his heat, finishing in 2:00.09, 0.16 seconds ahead of the next swimmer. A pair of Panthers made the finals for the 100-yard freestyle. Eric Reynolds took 14th place, swimming his heat in 1:10.80 seconds. Matt Gullotti also qualified, finishing in 17th with a time of 1:17.40. Sam Wright was the final Panther individual to compete, as he swam in the 100-yard backstroke. Wright finished in 10th place with a time of 59.02 seconds.

Pitt-Bradford started the day with the 200-yard medley relay, where the Panthers had 2 teams compete and finish the race. The team of Wright, Reynolds Young, and Young finished in 12th place with a time of 1:53.05. Pitt-Bradford's second team of Owen Fitzsimmons, Gullotti, Ryan, and Minerbi finished a spot behind them in 13th with a time of 2:00.29. The day came to a close with the 800-yard freestyle relay. The Panthers team of Wright, Fitzsimmons, Young, and Young finished in 6th place with a time of 7:52.74.

The Panthers have one more day of competition in Fredonia tomorrow. Preliminary rounds begin at 9:00 a.m. with the finals commencing at 5:00 p.m.
