Panthers in 5th After Day 1 at Blue Devil Invitational

Fredonia, N.Y. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's swimming team competed in the Blue Devil Invitational on Friday, hosted by Fredonia and Baldwin Wallace. On Day One of the competition, the Panthers collected 162 points and are in 5th place through 5 events.

Conan Young continued his strong start to the season, as he was able to win the 500-yard freestyle. Young finished the race in 4:49.65 to earn 32 points for the Panthers. He finished 5 seconds ahead of the next competitor. Two other Panthers qualified for the finals in the 500. Owen Fitzsimmons finished 22nd in 5:41.17 and Camden Tetenov took 24th in 6:37.85.

Duncan Young added a 10th-place finish for the Panthers in the 200-yard IM. He finished in 2:08.45 and took 2nd place in Heat B of the event. Eric Reynolds and Nathan Ryan also qualified for the finals in the event and successfully finished the race to add 7 more points to the Panthers' total. Reynolds finished in 20th with a time of 2:18.37, while Ryan was just two-tenths of a second behind him for 21st. 

The only other individual event of the day was the 50-yard freestyle, where Sam Wright finished 24th with a time of 24.90 seconds. 

Pitt-Bradford rounded out Day One with 3 teams completing relays. The Panther team of Reynolds, Tetenov, Ryan, and Giulio Minerbi completed the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:43.63 to finish in 12th. Pitt-Bradford also had two teams complete the 400-yard medley relay. Wright, Reynolds, Young, and Young swam the relay in 4:02.37 to take 11th. Fitzsimmons, Matt Gullotti, Ryan, and Minerbi finished in 13th with a time of 4:23.93.

The Panthers will be back in action tomorrow with 7 more events. Day two will include the 200-yard medley relay, 800-yard freestyle relay, 400-yard IM, 100-yard butterfly, 200-yard freestyle, 100-yard breaststroke and 100-yard backstroke events. Preliminary rounds will begin at 10:00 a.m. with the final rounds starting at 6:00 p.m.
