Panthers Take Down Cougars

Bradford, PA. – The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's swimming team was back in the Paul C. Duke III Aquatic Center on Saturday afternoon, as they easily defeated Chatham 96-43 in their final home dual meet of the fall semester.

The Panthers were victorious in all 14 men's events as numerous Panthers picked up multiple wins on the day.

The sophomore Pair of Conan and Duncan Young had a sterling performance, as they each won a pair of individual events, and were also on the winning relay teams for the Panthers. Conan dominantly won his two events, while Duncan won his first easily, but edged out a victory in his second race.

Conan began with a 15-second win in the 200-yard butterfly, finishing in 2:03.10. He followed that up with a larger margin of victory in the 400-yard IM. Conan swam the race in 4:26.54, finishing nearly 30 seconds ahead of the next competitor.

Duncan started his meet with a strong finish in the log-distance 1000-yard freestyle. He swam the 40 lengths in 10:48.16, beating his opponent by 21 seconds. He had a much tighter race in the 100-yard butterfly. Duncan trailed his opponent by .11 seconds after one lap but was able to barely eke out a win after the second, winning by .16 seconds with a time of 58.91.

While Duncan Young's victory was tight, it was not the closest race of the day. The tightest finish of the meet occurred in its shortest race, the 50-yard freestyle. In the sprint, Pitt-Bradford freshman Giulio Minerbi was able to out-touch his opponent at the wall, winning the race by .03 seconds with a time of 25.02. Minerbi also picked up a win in the 100-yard freestyle (56.14) and competed in both relays.

One other Pitt-Bradford freshman was able to pick up a pair of individual wins. Eric Reynolds was able to take both breaststroke events for the Panthers. He won the 100-yard version with a time of 1:11.37, and the 200 in 2:35.11.

Owen Fitzsimmons, Nathan Ryan, and Sam Wright were also able to win events for the Panthers. Fitzsimmons won the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:85.84, while Ryan took the 200-yard freestyle in 2:05.24, besting Fitzsimmons by half a second. Wright picked up an uncontested win in the 200-yard backstroke, finishing in 2:11.60.

The Panthers are now 2-2 in dual meets this season. They will be back in action next weekend when they travel to Baldwin Wallace for a 3-day invitational. Action begins on Friday, November 17th at 10:00 a.m.
