Panthers Dominate Blue Devils in Season Opener

Bradford, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's swimming team began their 2023-24 campaign with a dominating victory over Fredonia on Saturday. The Panthers breezed to a 115-48 win in the dual meet.

The Panthers were victorious in 5 of 8 contested events and were able to field and complete two teams in both relays.

The Panthers' sophomore trio of Conan Young, Duncan Young, and Sam Wright all won their individual races while also splitting the relays. Conan Young was first and eased to an 18-second victory in the 200-yard freestyle. He finished with a time of 1:53.06. Next up was his brother Duncan who was victorious in the 200-yard individual medley. He was able to outswim his opponent in each of the disciplines and finished just under 6 seconds faster with a final time of 2:12.90. Wright took the 100-yard backstroke, winning with a time of 1:01.10, beating his teammate Owen Fitzsimmons by 9 seconds. Fitzsimmons also added an uncontested win in the 1000-yard freestyle.

A pair of newcomers also had strong debuts for the Panthers. Jason Tosh had a strong showing in the 50-yard freestyle, winning the race with a time of 23.52 seconds. He finished just under 2 seconds faster than his classmate Giulio Minerbi. Tosh also had the fastest split in the 200-yard freestyle relay, swimming his leg in 23.43 seconds. The Panthers' final win came from freshman Nathan Ryan in the 100-yard butterfly. Ryan won the race with a time of 1L04.31 seconds, .74 seconds ahead of his nearest competitor. 

Pitt-Bradford is now 1-0 and will have nearly a month before their next meet. On Friday, October 27th, they will travel to Alfred for a dual meet against the Saxons.
