Young, Cercone Make All-Conference Squads

Bradford, Pa. --The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's and women's swimming teams had one player each earn All-AMCC honors at the joint Allegheny Empire Championships last week. Conan Young and Isabella Cercone both made the all-conference team twice, with Young earning 1 first-team and 1 second-team honor, while Cercone earned a pair of 2nd team honors.

Swimming All-Conference teams are decided by distance and discipline, with the top two AMCC finishers from the joint meet earning the honors.

For the Men, Conan Young made the first team in the 1650-yard freestyle, and then the second team in the 500-freestyle. Young dominated the competition in the mile, winning the race for all competitors while also smashing the meet and program record in the event with a time of 16:20.23. He finished the race 24 seconds ahead of the next competitor and just missed out on being the program's first national qualifier by 4 seconds. In the 500-yard freestyle, he finished second overall with a time of 4:41.86, which also set a new program record.

Young is the program's first All-Conference honoree since 2018-19 when Noah Frederick and two relays earned 2nd team honors and the 1st first team honoree since 2017-18.

Isabella Cercone earned two second-team appearances in the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke events. In the 100, Cercone finished 6th overall but was the 2nd among AMCC swimmers with a time of 1:10.35. She was just over two seconds behind the first team honoree. On the final day of the competition, she earned a second all-conference spot in a similar manner. She once again finished 6th overall, but 2nd as an AMCC swimmer in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:35.48, which set a program record in the event.

Cercone is the first member of the women's program to earn all-conference honors since the 2016-17 season.

"I am very proud of Conan and Isabella's standout performances at conference championships. Both set out at the beginning of the season knowing what they had to do to achieve their goals for this season," said head coach Chelsea Schwab. "They really made their mark as freshmen and this is just the beginning for them."
