Men’s Soccer Looks to Rebound in 2023

Bradford, Pa. – The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men’s soccer team will look to return to the AMCC postseason after missing the tournament last season.

After a historic 2021 campaign, the Panthers struggled to replace a high-scoring group of upperclassmen, led by NCAA Statistical Champion Chase Rider, in the 2022 season. The Panthers finished the season 2-14 with a 1-6 AMCC record, putting them just outside of postseason position.

In 2023, the Panthers will look to augment an experienced group of upperclassmen in their defense and midfield with an exciting freshman class who will provide energy, speed, and skill in the Panther attack.

Jared Scarlett and Evan Schmidt will split the majority of play between the sticks, while fellow senior Evan Baldwin will marshal the defensive line. Returning leading scorer Devin Stowe will anchor the Panther midfield, while Spencer Sklar and Bailee Verdill will spearhead the Panther attack.

The Panthers kick off their season on Saturday, September 2nd when they travel to Utica. Due to ongoing construction on the new turf playing surface, the Panthers will play their home games at three different local sites. Their first home game will be on Wednesday, September 6th at Veterans Memorial Park in Salamanca, N.Y. They will also play home contests this year at Bradford High School’s Parkway Field and Kane High School’s Paul R. Miller Stadium.

In the annual AMCC Pre-season Coaches Poll, the Panthers were predicted to finish in 7th place, just outside the AMCC postseason.  The last time Pitt-Bradford was predicted to miss the postseason was in 2019 when they exceeded expectations and earned the 5th seed in the AMCC Tournament.
