Panthers Drop Match at Penn State-Behrend

Erie, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's soccer team headed to Erie on Wednesday night, taking on Penn State-Behrend after picking up their first win of the season over the weekend. The Panthers could not keep their momentum growing after the win, falling to the Lions 5-0.

The hosts went on the attack immediately, but the Panthers were able to withstand the onslaught early on as the defense blocked three early shots and Jared Scarlett added a save. They were able to break through in the 12th minute, and then quickly doubled their lead five minutes later with a goal on a penalty. Down 2-0, the Panthers successfully defended three Lion corners and Scarlett added a pair of saves, but they could not keep Penn State-Behrend from adding to their lead, as they scored their third of the match in the 32nd.

The offensive onslaught continued as the game moved into the second half, as the Panthers had to defend three early shots and a pair of corners within the first 5 minutes of the stanza. Pitt-Bradford could not keep the Lions off the board for long, however, as the hosts scored in the 52nd, and then added the fifth goal in the 58th. The Panthers were able to get some time in the offensive end later on as they earned a corner kick in the 68th and Spencer Sklar found enough space for a shot in the 72nd. Pitt-Bradford made a goalkeeper change in the 80th minute, as freshman Brody Barto made his collegiate debut for the final ten minutes. Barto had an effective appearance, making 3 late saves without allowing a goal.

Starting goalkeeper Jared Scarlett made 9 saves for the Panthers, tallying 5 in the first half and 4 more in the second. Brody Barto played the final 10 minutes in the Panther net, stopping all three shots on goal he faced. Spencer Sklar had the only shot of the game for the Panthers, missing the target with a shot in the 72nd.

Pitt-Bradford falls to 1-9-1 on the season, with a 1-3 record in AMCC play. They will head to Pittsburgh over the weekend, as they will have a crucial AMCC match against LaRoche. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:15 at the Baierl Athletic Complex.
