Panthers Snap Skid, Beat Mounties on the Road

Cresson, Pa -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's basketball team snapped their 4-game losing streak, as they picked up an 85-71 victory at Mount Aloysius on Wednesday night.

  • The Panthers fell behind early in the contest as the Mounties jumped out to an immediate 4-0 lead. After a pair of Dylan Meyer free throws were answered by the hosts, Nathan Schneider hit a three from the top of the key to get the Panthers back to within one point. Mount Aloysius responded, pushing their advantage back to 6 points after 5 minutes, But the Panthers were able to quickly erase the lead and move ahead of the hosts in less than a minute. Schneider converted a three-point play and then on the next possession, Trey Oyler splashed his first three of the day on a pass from Greg Archie to tie the score at 13. Following another Panther stop, Isaiah Archie was able to get into transition and make a jump shot in the lane to give Pitt-Bradford their first lead of the day. 
  • The Mounties quickly tied the score at 15 and then the teams traded identical baskets for the next 4 minutes, keeping the game tied. The Panthers maintained a slight advantage due to two more threes from Oyler and 5 points from Archie, but the Mounties were able to move back ahead with a 9-0 run over a 2-minute span. Archie ended the run with a basket in the lane, but the Mounties were able to maintain their four-point lead over the rest of the half to take a 39-35 lead into the break.
  • The hosts were able to hold on to their lead for the first three minutes in the 2nd half until a Gus Napoleon three tied the game at 46 with 16:41 to go. The following five minutes saw the teams exchange baskets and remain one-possession apart, but an Isaiah Archie layup with 11:26 to go started a quick 6-0 run that gave the momentum to the Panthers. Archie gave the Panthers the lead for good as he was able to get away on the fast break and Greg Archie added a tough inside layup on the next possession to put the Panthers up 4. The Mounties looked to stall the Panther momentum with a quick bucket and timeout on the other end, but Trey Oyler hit another three-pointer after the stoppage to keep Pitt-Bradford rolling. 
  • Pitt-Bradford was able to push their lead to 9 points with 6 minutes to go after a Greg Archie layup before a pair of Schneider baskets in the lane saw the Panthers increase their advantage to double digits. Greg Archie and Devin Moultrie made late threes to extend the lead to 15 with 2 minutes to play before the Panthers were able to remove their starters to close the contest. 

After missing two games due to injury, the AMCC's leading scorer Isaiah Archie returned to lead all scorers with 25 points. He made 11-19 from the field, grabbed 4 rebounds, and collected 6 assists. Reigning AMCC player of the Week Nathan Schneider picked up his 7th double-double in a row as he finished with 22 points and 16 rebounds. He mad3 10-17 from the field and made the only free throw he attempted. He also dished out 6 assists. Trey Oyler stepped up from beyond the three-point line, scoring 19 points off the bench. He hit 6-8 from deep and added a late free throw. Greg Archie also reached double figures, scoring 11 points. 

The win moves the Panthers to 9-11 on the season with a 4-7 record in AMCC play. They are currently in a three-way tie for the 6th and final playoff spot. The Panthers will be back in action this weekend with an important game at Pitt-Greensburg. The contest is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m.
