BRADFORD, Pa. – Head Men's Basketball Coach Sean Brown Sr. will be stepping down from his position at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford.
Brown has accepted the same position at his alma mater Frostburg State, where he served as the top assistant coach for eight seasons prior to taking over as the Pitt-Bradford head women's basketball coach in 2014.
"I have very mixed emotions about Coach Brown departing," said Bret Butler, director of intercollegiate athletics. "Sean is a very good basketball coach, a wonderful colleague, and an even better man. His departure stings. I am very happy for Coach Brown and his family. This is a very good opportunity for him. It makes total sense. Sean had an excellent career at Frostburg State both as a player and a coach.
"This is an opportunity that not many college coaches get – he gets to coach at his alma mater, and he gets to go back closer to family, as both he and his wife are from Maryland. We wish nothing but much success and happiness for Coach Brown, Jen, and the kids. They will always be a part of our Pitt-Bradford athletics family."
As head coach of the women's team, Brown led the Panthers to the cusp of the NCAA Tournament during his two years at the helm, playing in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference finals in 2014-15 and the semifinals in 2015-16.
Last June, Brown was appointed head coach of the men's team.
The highlight of the 2017-18 season came in a victory over eventual second-place finisher Penn State-Behrend on Senior Day Feb. 10 at the KOA Arena.
"I'm extremely grateful for the opportunity that the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford had afforded me," Brown said. "The experience I gained at Pitt-Bradford was invaluable, and I wouldn't trade that for anything.
"I would like to thank Dr. Livingston Alexander and Bret Butler for having the confidence in me to come in and represent the university in several different capacities. Although I will miss this fine university, I'm excited to be going back home to my alma mater where it all began for me."
