Panthers Look to End Skid Against Alfred State

Bradford, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford baseball team will return to action on Tuesday as they host the Alfred State Pioneers in their second straight AMCC doubleheader. 

The Panthers enter the day on a 4 game losing skid after dropping a pair of doubleheaders with Penn State-Behrend and Hilbert. The Panthers' pair of catchers/designated hitters have led the offense this season. Evan Fragela is hitting .408 this season, which is the third-highest batting average in the conference. He's accumulated 29 hits and is also in the top 10 in the conference in doubles with 7. Jake McNabb is the Panther's 2nd leading hitter, as he enters the day with a .306 batting average. He has 1 home run on the year and 11 runs batted in. Tyler Aires is the Panthers' top run producer, driving in 16.

The Panthers have an experienced starting rotation that is led by a group of seniors. Alex Miles has led the pitching staff, leading the team with a 2.45 GPA. He has a 2-2 record so far and has allowed only 9 earned runs in 33 innings pitched. Reid Tarnowski has often served as the team's ace, taking on the more difficult pitching matchups. He is 1-3 with a 5.79 era and is coming off of a strong outing in which he gave u 4 runs in 6 innings pitched against Penn state-Behrend.

The Alfred State Pioneers enter the game with a 12-15 record but have gotten off to an excellent start in AMCC play as they are 6-0 against conference opponents. They are coming off of a sweep against Penn State-Altoona on Sunday.

The Pioneer offense is led by senior Matteo Avallone. Avallone has the 2nd best batting average at the conference at .417 and leads the AMCC in home runs, 7, and RBIs, 27. Nick Serce also has 4 home runs on the year, while Elijah Barinas is hitting .314. Jack Josephson leads the rotation with a 3-1 record and a 3.53 ERA, He has stuck out 39 batters. AJ Gartland also has 3 wins for Alfred State and has compiled a 5.02 ERA.

Game one is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start time at the Kessel Athletic Complex Baseball Field. The second game will begin approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of game one.
