Panthers to Open Home Schedule with Hilbert

Bradford, Pa. – The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford baseball team will open its home slate on Tuesday as they will host Hilbert College in an AMCC doubleheader.

The Panthers enter the matchup with a 7-13 record and a 0-2 record in AMCC play. The Panthers have started their year with a tough schedule, as they have played 5 games against teams receiving votes for the NCAA Top 25.

On Monday, the Panthers began their AMCC schedule with two tough losses to Penn-State Behrend. They lost the opener 4-2 and the nightcap 2-1. Kevin Rehak and Jake McNabb each hit home runs on the day while Alex Miles pitched 8 innings in game two, allowing only 2 unearned runs.

This season, the Panthers have been led by sophomore catcher Evan Fragela. Fragela is hitting .406 this season, with 16 runs scored, 7 doubles, and a home run. Senior outfielder Tyler Aires leads the team in runs batted in with 16, while Noah Meyers has 3 home runs. On the mound, Miles leads the team in innings pitched (33.0) and has the best ERA for a starter at 2.45. Kyler Majka leads the team in wins (3) and strikeouts (31) Freshmen Shawn Mannering, Brayden Hageter, and Trent Bielak have been important for the Panthers out of the bullpen, as they have combined for 4 saves.

Hilbert is 9-11 on the season and 1-1 in AMCC play. They split a doubleheader with Mount Aloysius over the weekend with the Mounties taking game one 3-1 and the Hawks battling back for a 9-2 win in the nightcap.

Patrick Whelan leads the Hawks with a .426 batting average and 19 runs batted in. John Riviere-Vejas is hitting .403 and has been a threat on the base paths, stealing 17 bags in 19 attempts and scoring 20 runs. Michael Contini leads the Hawks in innings pitched (24.0) wins (3) and ERA (3.38).

First pitch for game 1 is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Pit-Bradford's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee will continue the department's D3 Week celebration as they will be hosting a cookout during the game.
