Bethel Named NCAA Woman of the Year Nominee

Bradford, Pa. -- University of Pittsburgh at Bradford graduate Emily Bethel has been recognized as the university’s selection for the 2022 NCAA Woman of the Year Award.

Rooted in Title IX and directed by the NCAA Committee on Women’s Athletics, the NCAA Woman of the Year program celebrates the accomplishments of female college athletes across all three NCAA divisions. This program has honored the academic achievements, athletics excellence, community service, and leadership of outstanding female college athletes.

Bethel was a three-year captain of the Pitt-Bradford women’s soccer team, starting 47 games in goal for the Panthers. She totaled 380 saves and recorded two shutouts. As a senior, she also joined the women’s basketball program, providing depth in the front court for the 2021-22 season.

While Bethel was a productive member of her teams on the field of play, she truly made an impact on campus, and in the classroom. She maintained a 3.955 GPA while studying Athletic Training and will be serving as a Graduate Assistant in the athletic training program at Salem university.

She was a 4-time Peak Performance Award winner and was a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma Athletic Honor Society. Bethel was also named Pitt-Bradford Female Student-Athlete of the Year in April.

Bethel is one of 577 nominees to represent their school. Bethel’s nomination will be forwarded to the AMCC, and the conference will select one representative to advance to the NCAA Women of the Year Selection Committee. The committee will select a national winner at the NCAA convention in January.
