Maslowski Hits 1000 Digs as Panthers Fall to Saxons

Bradford, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford volleyball team had an eventful night on Tuesday, as during their matchup with Alfred University, junior Libero Kayla MAsowsli surpassed the 1,000 career dig milestone. Unfortunately, the Panthers were not able to parlay the celebration into a victory, as they fell to the Saxons in straight sets.

After scoring the first two points of the match, the Panthers fell behind the Saxons, as they were able to rally for 5 in a row. The Panthers quickly fought back after two straight blocks, and then went ahead of the Saxons on a kill by Jenna Louser and an attack error. With the Panthers trailing by three in the set, Ruby Smith and Marissa Bowman had back-to-back kills. In the midst of the rally, MAslowski picked up her 7th dig of the match, reaching her milestone. Unfortunately, the Panthers could not ride the momentum from the celebration, as Alfred closed the set on a 10-6 run to go ahead 1-0.

Set two saw the Panthers fall behind early again, as they struggled to pick up the serve from Alfred's Libero, leading to an 8-2 run. That run was all the Saxons would need, as they were able to limit the Pitt-Bradford rallies, maintaining their lead throughout the set. The Panthers did pull within three at 20-17, but they could not finish the comeback, ultimately dropping the set 25-19.

Pitt-Bradford got off to a much better start in the third set, as they jumped out to a quick 2-8 lead, led bu a pair of kills from Bowman. The Saxons rallied, cutting the lead quickly to one, but could not catch the Panthers until the score was 18-18. from there, the visitors took over, as they slowly retook the lead and put the match away 25-22.

Kayla Maslowski did much more than reach her milestone dig, she collected 22 in the game, while also adding an ace and a kill. Summer Anderson led the Panthers offense with 6 kills, while also being the most efficient hitter, posting a hit percentage of .312. She also added 2.5 blocks. Ruby Smith, Jenna Louser, and Marissa Bowman all added 5 kills as well. Freshman Alyssa Radtke made her first collegiate start at setter, and had an effective day, dishing out 24 assists.

The Panthers fall to 3-14 with the loss. They will return to AMCC play this weekend, as they travel to Cresson to take on Mount Aloysius on Saturday.
