Panthers to Open Home Slate with Elmira

Bradford, Pa. – After a tough weekend in Virginia Beach, the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford volleyball team will return to KOA Arena for the first time this season as they host Elmira on Wednesday evening.

The Panthers faced some tough competition at the season-opening Marlin Invitational, finishing the event 0-4. The Panthers were able to find their footing on day 2, as they were able to pick up two set victories that eluded them on the opening night.

Despite mixing the first night of the tournament, Olivia Reese returned to form in her season debut, leading the Panthers with 23 kills at a .143 hitting percentage. Just behind Reese was a pair of freshmen, Darby Deniston and Ruby Smith, who collected 20 and 16 kills each, while senior middle Kaitlyn Sexton added 11 kills. Senior setter Olivia Reese tallied 68 assists over the 4-game stretch, while also tallying 29 digs. Kayla Maslowski led the Panther defensive effort with 44 digs.

The Elmira Soaring Eagles have started their season with a 2-1 record as they picked up wins over Cazenovia and Mount Saint Mary while falling to fellow AMCC member Alfred State.

Elmira used a balanced attack over their opening weekend as 6 players registered double-digit kills with only two players reaching 20. Samantha Garry was the most productive attacker, putting down 22 kills. Asia Curkendall leads the Soaring Eagles in assists with 54, while Cassidy Ryan added 32. Elmira had 8 players reach double-digit digs with Amelia Martin leading the way with 22.

The game is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. in KOA Arena.
