Hamburg, N.Y. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's volleyball team made quick work of their hosts, Hilbert College, on Wednesday night. winning their match in straight sets. The Panthers faced little resistance as they took each of the sets, winning them 25-11, 25-12 and 25-6.
Pitt-Bradford jumped ahead of the Hawks thanks to 6 straight points with Stephanie Carson at the service line. Carson picked up one service ace in the run while Emily Cleveland recorded two kills, Kaitlyn Sexton added another and the Hawks committed two errors. Cleveland finished the set with 6 kills, while Sexton and Katie Treat added 3 and 2 respectively.
The second set was very similar to the first in that the teams split the opening points until a 7-point serving run from Meagan Welsh. Welsh picked up two aces, while Alexandra Segura added two kills. After losing the serve at 13-5, the Panthers got a quick side out and Segura served to 4 more straight points. Kamryn Piscitelli closed the set for Pitt-Bradford with two kills. Piscitelli led the way in the set with 3 kills while Elizabeth Johnson, Segura and Gabby Barnes added two a piece.
The final set was a very short affair that started with 4 consecutive service aces from Katie Rose. The Panthers only needed 5 kills in the game as Hawks hit -.200% in the set, committing 12 total errors to only 1 kill. Pitt-Bradford recorded 7 aces in the set including 4 from Rose, 1 from Cleveland and 2 from Caitlin Cipriano. Sexton put down 3 of the 5 Panther kills in the set.
The Panthers used a balanced attack in the game as 10 different players recorded kills. Cleveland and Sexton both finished with 6 kills to lead the charge. Tabitha Walker dished out 12 assists while Alayna Seggi led the defensive effort with 10 digs. Pitt-Bradford picked up a season high 14 service aces, with Rose (4) picking up the most.
The women's volleyball team is now 15-12 on the year with a 7-2 record in AMCC Play. They are currently in a tie for 2nd place in the conference with Mount Aloysius and Penn State Altoona. The Panthers will host Penn State Altoona on Saturday in the AMCC Game of the Week. A win will clinch at least the 3rd seed in the post-season tournament with a possibility of moving to the 2nd seed with a Mount Aloysius loss.
