Panthers End Misericordia Tournament Strong With Two Wins Saturday

DALLAS, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's volleyball team picked up wins in both of its matches Saturday in the final day of the Misericordia Tournament.

Pitt-Bradford defeated St. Elizabeth in the morning's action, 3-1, before sweeping a strong St. Joseph's (L.I.) team to finish out the event.

"It's nice to get back on track with a couple wins today," Head Coach Tom Roof said. "Our middle hitters are starting to get more experience, and Payton did a real nice job running our offense. We played steady and got a lot of different players in. We played well all around today."

After falling in the first match Friday evening, the Panthers bounced back and captured wins in each of the last three matches of the event, going 3-1 overall.

Pitt-Bradford is now 4-5 on the season after winning three-straight matches.

The Panthers captured a win in the first set against St. Elizabeth, then dropped the second set narrowly, 27-25.

After lineup changes, the Panthers bounced back for strong third and fourth sets to complete the victory.

Then in the final match of the tournament, the Panthers came out strong and captured a three-set win over a competitive St. Joseph's team.

Once again, Emily Cleveland and Riley Anderson had great days hitting for the Panthers.

Defensively, Laura Hildebrand led the way as the Panthers' anchor.

Up next, the Panthers will host Houghton Tuesday for their second home match of the season.
