SCRANTON, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's volleyball team wrapped up action in the Scranton Tournament Saturday, facing a pair of tough squads.

Misericordia took the morning's action in straight sets, then Hood came out on top in a five-set thriller in which the Panthers battled back from two sets down.

"We did not play well to start the day," Head Coach Tom Roof said. "We came out flat, and then we started slow. We had to deal with some injuries and worked some other players in, but that could help us in the long run. We saw a few good things, but we still need to be better. Katie Treat and Emily Cleveland both stepped up and played really well for us."

The Panthers started out the day against Misericordia, working a close first set, 25-21.

Tied 19-19, Misericordia outscored the Panthers 5-2 to take the set, capped by back-to-back kills.

In set two, the two teams hung close until Misericordia went on a 6-1 rally and opened up a 15-8 lead, eventually extending to a double-digit lead of 21-11.

Pitt-Bradford battled back, though, as a pair of kills and a service ace from Emily Cleveland followed by a kill from Kamryn Piscitelli highlighted a Panther rally.

But Misericordia went onto win the set, 25-17.

Set three was much of the same, as Misericordia opened up a large lead but the Panthers battled back. However, the Panthers came up short, 25-19.

Against Hood, the two teams battled in the opening set.

Back-and-forth, the two teams traded the lead, eventually bringing the score to a 24-24 deadlock. But a Panther error led to the set-winning kill for Hood.

In set two, Hood controlled the lead for much of the duration, but the Panthers were never far behind. But a late rally for Hood pulled them ahead, and they captured the second set 25-19.

But back stormed the Panthers in set three.

Up 15-9, the Panthers ripped off seven-straight points with Katie Treat serving, highlighted by a pair of service aces and kills from Cleveland, Gesica Ferrar and Faith Williams.

A pair of blunders from Hood eventually ended the set, giving Pitt-Bradford a 25-11 win.

Much of the same in set four, as the Panthers opened up a 5-0 lead to start the set. 

They stayed strong, eventually capturing the set off back-to-back kills from Ferrar and Riley Anderson.

The two teams were neck-and-neck in the fifth and deciding set.

With the Panthers up 11-6, Hood rallied for five-straight points, then three more to win the match.

Cleveland led the way with 17 kills and added 15 digs. On offense, Treat followed closely with 14 kills.

Ferrar registered 34 assists and Hildebrand led the way with 21 digs. 

Up next, the Panthers will host Allegheny at the KOA Arena for their home opener Tuesday at 7 p.m.
