BRADFORD, Pa. – The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's volleyball team defeated Buffalo State in a non-conference match Tuesday at the KOA Arena.
"We're continuing to play really well, and that's great to see," Head Coach Tom Roof said. "Defensively, we played really well as we managed to handle some really strong hitters on their team. This is a huge win against a great team from our region. The victory will help us carry momentum into the final weekend of the season."
With the victory, Pitt-Bradford is now 13-12 on the season overall and has won seven-straight matches.
The Panthers came out strong in the first set, rolling to a 25-14 win.
Buffalo State had a tough time with the Panthers' front line in the set as Erin Fagan and Katie Treat sent many attacks back their way.
Set two was much of the same as the Panthers claimed a convincing 25-15 victory. Pitt-Bradford hit at a high percentage in the set, making just one error on 33 attempts with 17 kills.
Pitt-Bradford suffered a minor setback in the third set with Buffalo State claiming a 25-14 win to extend the match.
With the win in set three, Buffalo State broke a streak of 20-straight sets won by the Panthers dating back to Sept. 30.
The Panthers took care of business in the fourth set, winning convincingly, 25-12, hitting at a high percentage of 15 kills in 36 attempts and just a pair of errors.
Riley Anderson and Emily Cleveland led the way for the Panthers with 15 kills each. Fagan added eight while Ally Easton and Katie Treat had seven apiece.
Of the Panthers' 55 total kills, Payton Orzech assisted 49 of them, breaking her previous season high of 45 against Mount Aloysius (Sept. 23).
Laura Hildebrand recorded 30 digs while Anderson had 29.
Up front, Fagan recorded four solo blocks. Easton and Treat each assisted four.
Pitt-Bradford will wrap up its 2017 regular season Saturday, playing host to Pitt-Greensburg for an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference match. The Panthers enter the game tied for first in the conference at 6-2 and will honor their lone graduating senior, Erin Fagan, for Senior Day prior to the start of the match.
