Panthers Split At AMCC Quad

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's volleyball team split its two games in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Quad Saturday afternoon at D'Youville, topping Mount Aloysius in four sets and narrowly falling to Penn State-Altoona in five sets.

"It would have been nice come away at 2-0, but 1-1 keeps us in the picture," Head Coach Tom Roof said. "We got great production from our middles, particularly Ally Easton. We got fantastic performances from Riley Anderson and Emily Cleveland on the outside. We had a nice win and played well against a good Altoona team. Coming back to beat Mount Aloysius after losing to Altoona showed a lot of character."

The Panthers faced Penn State-Altoona in the first match of the day and battled to five sets.

Altoona took the first, but Pitt-Bradford found its defense and held the Lions to 15 and 19 points in the second and third sets to go up, 2-1.

But, Altoona turned it around and captured the final two sets to take the win.

Anderson led the way with 16 kills while Easton had 10. Laura Hildebrand led the way with 35 digs and Payton Orzech had 37 assists.

The Panthers then bounced back and took care of business against Mount Aloysius.

The two teams saw an even match right from the start as Pitt-Bradford had to score 27 points to take set one.

Mount Aloysius tied it up with a win in set two, but Pitt-Bradford tipped the scale back and took sets three and four by identical scores, 25-18.

Anderson and Cleveland both knocked 16 kills for Pitt-Bradford. Orzech assisted 45 kills, and Hildebrand had 48 digs.

The Panthers will be in action again on Wednesday as they travel to Penn State-Behrend for their third conference match.
