Panthers Head to Penn State-Behrend Friday, Host Houghton Monday

BRADFORD, Pa. – The University of Pittsburgh women's tennis will take on its second Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent at Penn State-Behrend on Friday before hosting Houghton for its first home match of the 2017 season Monday. 

The Panthers are coming off a narrow loss in their season opener at Pitt-Greensburg on Friday, Sept. 1, 5-4.

In doubles action, the No. 2 pair of Jessica Jordan and Maya Bingaman came away with a tight decision, first earning a locked score of 8-8 and then coming away with the tie-breaking win of 9-7.

Rebecca Jordan got in done in her first collegiate action as she earned the victory in No. 3 singles, 6-2, 6-2.

In No. 4 singles, Ashley Stoltz came away with a hard-fought, come-from-behind 0-6, 7-7 (7-5), 7-3 win.

To round out the Panthers' scoring, Jessica Jordan continued her strong play as she earned a convincing 6-0, 6-2 victory in the No. 6 spot. 

Penn State-Behrend claimed victories in its first two matches over Medaille (Sept. 1) and D'Youville (Sept. 2), but most recently lost at Fredonia on Wednesday. Through the first two matches, Celeste Bentley, Bayleigh Adams and Kelly Miller posted perfect 2-0 marks in singles action. The No. 1 and No. 2 doubles teams were also blemish-free at 2-0.

Houghton dropped its first two matches and will take on Sage on Saturday before heading to Pitt-Bradford for Monday's match. In its most recent match against Nazareth (Sept. 6), Laura Jacuzzo and Amanda Carl grabbed singles wins. The No. 1 doubles team of Jacuzzo and Tori Noller also came out on top.

Friday's action at PSB will start at 4 p.m. while Monday's home contest gets started at 6 p.m.
