Women’s Tennis drops first round matchup, 5-0

ALTOONA, Pa. – The Pitt-Bradford women's tennis team suffered a 5-0 defeat to Penn State Altoona during the first round of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Tournament on Saturday.

Pitt-Bradford (4-8, 4-4) had no answer for the strong performance shown by the Lions during the match.

To begin play, top doubles pair Alexa Holleran and Alexandra Claherty suffered an 8-2 defeat in the No. 1 flight. In the second flight, Shaina Reddinger and Margaret Hansen fell 8-6, while Jaime VanAlstine and Emily Fowkes dropped their flight, 9-8 (7-1).

In singles, no result was given for Holleran's match with Altoona's Michelle Colucci in game one. In the second game, Reddinger fell 6-0, 6-1, and Amy Thomas suffered a 6-0, 6-0 defeat in the sixth game. No results were also given for singles matches three, four and five.

"Give Penn State Altoona credit," said head coach Susan Schenfield. "They wanted the win today more than we did."

With the defeat, Pitt-Bradford ends its 2014 season. The Lady Panthers enter the offseason before returning to the courts in the fall of 2015.
