Women’s Tennis suffers 6-3 defeat to Fredonia State

FREDONIA, N.Y. – The Pitt-Bradford women's tennis team suffered a 6-3 defeat to the Fredonia State Blue Devils on Saturday afternoon on the road.

Pitt-Bradford (2-3, 2-1) struggled to get going in doubles play against the Blue Devils and as a result, found itself trailing 3-0 after the Fredonia (3-4, 0-2) sweep.

Freshman Alexa Holleran and senior Shaina Reddinger played in the No. 1 doubles flight and suffered an 8-6 defeat. Junior Emily Fowkes and freshman Maggie Hansen fell 8-4 in the No. 2 flight, while senior Jamie VanAlstine and sophomore Amy Thomas dropped the third flight, 8-3.

In singles play, Holleran was in the top flight and grabbed the Panthers first win with a 6-0, 6-1 decision. Reddinger and Fowkes dropped the second and third games with 6-0, 3-0 and 6-4, 8-6 defeats. In the fourth flight, Hansen secured Pitt-Bradford second victory with a 6-1, 6-7 score.

VanAlstine stole game five 6-2, 6-2, and Thomas fell 9-7, 7-4 in the final game.

Pitt-Bradford returns home on Sunday, Sept. 21, for a 1 p.m. match versus Penn State Altoona at the Kessel Athletic Complex.
