Women’s Tennis starts fast in 7-2 victory

PITTSBURGH – The Pitt-Bradford women's tennis team used a fast start in doubles play to defeat the La Roche Redhawks 7-2 on the road Saturday.

Pitt-Bradford (2-1) came out swinging the rackets in doubles play, sweeping the Redhawks 3-0. Alexa Holleran and Alexandra Claherty took the first game 8-4, while Shaina Reddinger and Maggie Hansen claimed victory in the second game, 8-0.

In the final doubles game, Emily Fowkes and Jaime VanAlstine stole the win with an 8-3 decision.

In singles play, Holleran started in the top flight for the Panthers and won 7-5, 6-1. In the No. 2 flight, Claherty found victory by way of a 6-2, 6-2 decision. Reddinger won the third game 6-4, 6-2, and Fowkes gave the Panthers their final win with a 6-1, 6-1 victory in the No. 4 flight.

The only defeats of the afternoon were in the final two flights. VanAlstine suffered a 7-5, 7-5 defeat in the fifth game, while Amy Thomas dropped her singles match, 2-6, 6-3 and 6-1.

Pitt-Bradford is right back in action tomorrow afternoon when it faces Franciscan in Steubenville, Ohio, at 1 p.m.
