Women’s Tennis falls to Penn State Behrend, 6-3

BRADFORD, Pa. – The Pitt-Bradford women's tennis team suffered a 6-3 defeat to conference-foe Penn State Behrend on Wednesday night at the Kessel Athletic Complex.

Pitt-Bradford (3-7, 3-4) fell 3-0 in doubles play and as a result, never recovered for the remainder of the match.

Freshman Alexa Holleran and freshman Alexandra Claherty fell in the top flight of the doubles, 8-2. Senior Shaina Reddinger and freshman Margaret Hansen dropped the No. 2 flight, 8-6. In the final pairing, sophomore Amy Thomas and junior Emily Fowkes suffered an 8-2 defeat.

In singles play, Holleran dropped the first game, 6-2, 6-2. In the second flight, Reddinger fell 6-1, 6-1, while Claherty collected the first win for the Panthers with a 7-5, 6-0 victory over Behrend's Colleen Miller.

In the fourth flight, Fowkes defeated Malinda Miller by a score of 7-5, 7-6. Hansen fell in the fifth game, 6-4, 6-2, and Thomas defeated Julie Lester 6-2, 6-0 in the final singles flight.

Pitt-Bradford returns to the court on Friday, Oct. 3. The Panthers travel to face D'Youville in the final regular season match in Buffalo, N.Y., at 4 p.m.
