Panthers Post Strong Times, Fall to Fredonia in Season Opener

Fredonia, N.Y. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's swim team began its season on Saturday, falling to Fredonia 114-45.

"I was very impressed with the times we were able to put on the board with only a short amount of preseason training," said head coach Chelsea Schwab. "We're already seeing where our strengths and weaknesses are and where we need to focus our training."

Isabella Cercone had a strong debut for the Panthers, winning her two individual events while also swimming the anchor leg in the Panther's 200-yard freestyle relay. In her first collegiate race, Cercone won the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:35.79. She followed that up with a tight win in the 100-yard breaststroke, winning in 1:12.06. Fellow freshman Madison Foote had two second-place finishes. She swam the 1000-yard freestyle in 14:00.10 and the 100-yard backstroke in 1:19.97, just 6 seconds off the pace.

Adriana Gallas also had a par of 2nd place finishes in the 500-yard and 50-yard freestyle.  She swam the 50 in 32.89 seconds and the 500 in 7:13.12. Bailey Fedak swam the 200-yard freestyle in 2:24.53 and the 100-freestyle in 1:02.26.

The Panthers will have the rest of the month to train and improve their times before opening their home schedule against Medaille on October 28th.
