Panthers Compete In Buffalo State Tri-Meet With Wells

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The Univerity of Pittsburgh at Bradford swim teams returned to the pool Saturday, competing at Buffalo State with Wells in a tri-meet scored as a double dual.

The Pitt-Bradford men defeated Wells 104-47 but fell to Buff State 147-62. On the women's side, Wells topped the Panthers 171-27 and Buff State defeated Pitt-Bradford 147-17.

"It was nice to get back to racing today after not competing for over a month," Head Coach Doug Alban said. "The past 16 days have been the hardest training of the year and the team responded really well today. We have two more full weeks before we start resting for conferences." 


The Pitt-Bradford men's team got the day started finishing third in the 200-medley relay. The squad of Caleb Hansen, Chris Troll, Devyn Condon and Noah Frederick finished in 1:49.07.

Frederick later grabbed second place in the men's 1,000-freestyle with a time of 11:37.02.

The first Pitt-Bradford win of the day came from Hansen in the men's 200-freestyle with a winning time of 1:52.87 -- just under two full seconds ahead of the second-place finisher.

In the women's 100-backstroke, Kayla Broad timed in with the second-fastest time at 1:09.22.

Troll later earned the second victory of the day for Pitt-Bradford, finishing the men's 100-breaststroke in 1:07.23, edging out a competitive opponent that finished just 0.17 seconds behind.

The men's 200-butterfly event saw a pair of strong Panther performances as Condon grabbed second place (2:13.10) and Frederick finished fourth (2:32.83).

Broad continued her strong day finishing second in the 100-freestyle with a time of 1:01.06.

Troll's second victory of the day came in the men's 200-breaststroke with a time of 2:29.90.

Hansen and Condon finished second and third, respectively, in the men's 500-freestyle with times of 5:12.41 and 5:36.42.

In the women's 100-butterfly, Broad finished with the top time of 1:15.07.

Hansen's second win of the day came in the 200-IM with a top time of 2:13.29.

Pitt-Bradford will be in action next in its home finale Friday, Jan. 18, as Alfred State comes to town. Prior to the start of the meet, the Department of Athletics and Pitt-Bradford swim programs will honor senior Devyn Condon for Senior Day.
