King Scores for Panthers in Season Finale

Bradford, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's soccer team brought their 2024 campaign to a close on Monday, falling to Bryant & Stratton-Syracuse 7-1 at Rathburn Family Field.

The Panthers struggled to stay with the pace of the Bobcat attack, and after 6 minutes of play, found themselves trailing 1-0. The Bryant & Stratton attack continued after a Panther foul, as they scored two goals within a minute to increase their advantage to 3-0. Mya King registered the Panthers' first shot on goal in the 14th minute and then cut into the lead with a goal in the 18th. Emily Gibbons slid a through-ball to King down the left side to put her behind the defense. King collected the pass and unleashed a left-footed shot past the keeper into the far corner. It was her 13th goal of the season.

Pitt-Bradford could not hold the momentum, and the visitors restored their lead in the 26th minute. Mackenzie Harmon made a pair of saves to keep the deficit at three and King put another shot on target in the 39th, but the game went to the break with the Panthers trailing 4-1.

In the second half, the Bobcats kept the majority of possession in the Panther end and after 15 minutes of play, extended their lead to 4. They added two more goals in the half, with the first coming in the 76th minute and the game in the 80th. The Panthers did carve out a few chances as Avery Benzel and Hannah Clarke both put shots on goal in the final 45, but could not beat the keeper.

Mya King scored the Panthers' only goal while tallying three shots, all finishing on target. Emily Gibbons picked up the assist on the goal. Hannah Clarke and Avery bEnzel both added shots on goal, while Avery Yard had an attempt that did not find the target. Mackenzie Harmon made 5 saves in the loss.

The Panthers finish their season with a 6-7-3 record. The team's six wins is the most for the Program since the 2017=18 season.
